Welcome letter - 9&10th Graders - Fall 2020

May 29, 2020

Dear New Eagles, Parents and Guardians,

Congratulations on your acceptance to the High School for Environmental Studies!  We are excited to have you as a student next year!  Welcome to the New Student Portal on our remote learning website.

The High School for Environmental Studies (HSES) is the first school of its kind in the nation. HSES opened its doors in 1992 with 150 ninth graders. This year, there will be approximately 1300 students, grades 9 – 12.

Please take some time to explore all of the resources provided on this page.  We are also available to you should you have additional questions.  Keep in mind, there are no Summer Assignments for 10th grade transfer students.

With regards to supplies lists, teachers provide students with class-specific lists in the Fall.  However, if we do return to our building in September, we know that now, more than ever, we need to count on each other to keep our community thriving.  To that end, if you are able to provide paper towels, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, or other cleaning projects, we will gratefully accept them.

We are sorry that we are unable to meet you and begin building our community in person.  We know that this is an uncertain time, and we promise that as soon as the Department of Education, Schools Chancellor, and NYC Mayor come to an agreement regarding next school year, we will communicate all of this information to you. Whether remotely or in person, we are HSES strong, and we look forward to welcoming you to our community!

Looking forward,

Amber Najmi
